Bristol B. Whiles, MD

Dr. Bristol Whiles is a urologist at The University of Kansas Health System who has specialized expertise in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), complex stone disease, ureteral obstruction and robot-assisted surgery for benign and malignant conditions. In addition, she is an assistant professor of urology at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

As a physician who strives to provide a patient-centered care experience, she increases her patients’ knowledge and understanding, which can empower them in the shared decision-making process. This helps to ensure treatment options are tailored to each patient’s specific needs and treatment goals.

Dr. Whiles completed her medical school and urologic surgery residency training at the University of Kansas. She then went on to complete an Endourological Society Fellowship at the University of Florida. Her focus during training on minimally invasive surgery and endourology prepared her for the expertise her patients require.

For enlarged prostate treatment, she offers multiple minimally invasive procedures including holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP). For kidney stone treatment, Dr. Whiles has expertise in percutaneous renal access and in minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy and ureteroscopic stone treatment, allowing her to treat both very large and complex stones.

Dr. Whiles utilizes the da Vinci robotic platform for minimally invasive urologic procedures such as ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction repair, ureteral reimplantation and resection of small renal masses. She is trained on the multiport robot as well as the newer, single-port robotic platform, which can be used in certain cases.

Her research interests primarily focus on stone disease, including evaluation of new technology, artificial intelligence and BPH. Dr. Whiles has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and textbook chapters. She is also involved in resident and medical student education and mentorship. She is a member of the American Urological Association and the Endourological Society.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending quality time with her family and fishing in the great outdoors at the farm. Dr. Whiles also loves to travel and check out new places that have day-hiking routes and a fun culinary scene.
